How To Remove Stains On A Suit Or Dress

Felecia Coleman

Staining a suit or a dress can be frustrating as they are tough to get cleaned properly. Stains that are left untreated have the potential to ruin garments by leaving a permanent impression or discoloration on the item. It is important that once the garment is stained that you can quickly to lower the amount of time that the stain has to set into the garment and weave its way into the fabric.

There are a number of tip and tactics that you can employ from home to try and get the stain out yourself. Here is a step-by-step guide to getting rid of a stain in a garment:

1 - Start by removing as much of the stain as you can by using a moist cloth that has been dipped in water. Blot the stained area with the cloth, but try not to smear the stain into other areas of the garment.

2- If possible try soaking the stained area in dry cleaning fluid as soon as possible, before the stain has a chance to really set into the fabric. Leave the garment for about twenty to thirty minutes for the dry cleaning fluid to sink to allow it to break down the stain. Specific stains may require a different type of stain remover, such as fruit juices can be taken out by simply washing the item with detergent.

3 - After letting the garment soak, you can also steam the article of clothing to further loosen the stain and remove it. Use the damp cloth and put it over the stain and then apply the iron on a steam setting over top of the cloth. Make sure that you don't apply the iron for more than ten to fifteen seconds or you could burn your. The heat from the iron should remove the stain and soak it up into the damp cloth.

4 - Allow the garment to dry for a full twenty four hours and the stain should be fully removed.

If the steps outlined above do not remove the stain then you will have to take it into a professional dry cleaning service to get rid of tough stains. A professional dry cleaner will have the necessary experience and knowledge on how different types of fabric react to specific stains, so that they can remove them with ease.

A professional dry cleaning service will also have industrial grade chemicals that they can use if necessary to remove tough stains that have left their mark on an item. To learn more, try contacting a company like Chris French Cleaners.
