Shine Matters: Four Tips To Make Window Cleaning A Breeze

Felecia Coleman

In an ideal world, your windows will be washed twice a year. Unfortunately, most people overlook their windows and skip cleaning them altogether. While it isn't necessarily detrimental, it does make it difficult to see out of your windows. It can also make your home a bit of an eyesore.

Although window washing may seem like a huge chore, it doesn't have to be. By following these four tips, you can make cleaning your windows a breeze:

1. Take Advantage of Window Cleaning Tools

It does not make sense to clean your windows with tissues or newspaper—there's just too many of them. Using products you would use to clean mirrors or interior windows just makes your job harder. Instead, use tools designed to clean exterior windows.

Large tools, such as cloth strips and squeegees, make your job much easier. Other tools you may want to have on hand include: dish soap, buckets, a ladder, lint-free rags, and plenty of clean of water.

2. Rinse, Wash, and Repeat

Oftentimes, people will jump into cleaning their windows feet first. Although soap and water work well to clean your windows, they need a little help. Instead of applying soapy water first, start by rinsing your windows. A quick rinsing will remove excess dirt and residue, which will make the cleanser you use much more effective.

When cleaning your windows, remember: rinse, wash, rinse again. If you find that your windows still aren't coming clean, consider repeating the process until you get the results you want.

3. Use Floor Wax

Many people don't like washing their windows because they don't stay clean. Hours after cleaning your windows, they may begin to collect dust and debris again. Fortunately, this is preventable.

If you want your windows to stay cleaner longer, use floor wax. A clear coating of floor wax will protect your windows from the elements, as well as dirt and debris. You can also apply the floor wax to your windowsills to keep them clean.

4. Time It Right

You may think that midday is the perfect time to clean your windows. However, midday is often the worst time to clean your windows. Why? The temperature is usually the hottest during the middle of the day, which causes the water to evaporate faster, which leads to streaks.

If you want a perfect, streak-free shine, make sure you are cleaning your windows at the right time. For most people, early morning or evening will be best.

These four tips can help make window washing much easier. However, if you still don't want to wash your windows, don't worry. You can always hire a professional window cleaning service, like Allen Commercial Cleaning Services,  to do it for you.
